Hi, this is Britni from Play. Party. Pin. With the Oscars coming up so soon, I thought it would be fun to share a DIY Oscar party banner idea with you today. This star party banner is so simple to make and a great way to use up old magazines that, if you’re anything like me, are piling up around your house. Pair it with a director’s cut board, Academy Award trophies, and some popcorn buckets for easy Oscar party decorations.
- Magazines with celebrity photos
- Large stars (I purchased mine at Party City but you could easily just cut them out of cardboard or cardstock)
- Old newspaper or disposable tablecloth to paint on top of
Step 1: Cut out celebrity photos in all shapes and sizes from your magazines.
Step 2: Starting in the center, paint a layer of decoupage on the star and place a picture on top. Paint over the picture with decoupage to glue it down in place. Moving out from the center, repeat the process with your other pictures.
Step 3: Continue decoupaging pictures until the star is completely covered. Don’t worry if you go over the edge of the star, you will be cutting around the star after the decoupage dries.
Step 4: After the decoupage dries, turn the star over and cut around the edges of the star so that you have nice clean lines.
Step 5: Punch holes in the top of each of your stars and thread ribbon through each star to hang your party banner.
Easy right? Now all that’s left is hanging up the banner at your party.
Are you going to watch the Oscars this year? These spinach artichoke dip cups and raspberry and chocolate mini cheesecakes would be perfect for your watching party.
